Cognitive and Executive Function Therapy
Cognitive skills are thinking skills…the mental tools we use to accomplish everyday tasks.
They can be impacted for a variety of reasons and then can result in changes in daily functioning abilities.
Common Diagnoses we see:
Stroke
Traumatic Brain Injury
Seizures
Brain Tumor
Multiple Sclerosis
Cognitive Skills Include: Memory, Attention, Problem-Solving, Planning/Organization, Word-Finding, Processing Information
In therapy, Allison and Jill help to identify skills and tasks that are most meaningful to you. After identification, we work with you and your support system to set specific goals and identify personalized strategies to increase participation and success in desired activities.
What is Executive Functioning?
Executive functions are housed in the front part of our brains. They are like the conductors of an orchestra, helping all of the other cognitive skills to work together. They support us in staying focused and directing our brains to complete a goal.
Here are some examples:
Decision-making
Prioritization
Time Management
Planning/Organization
Regulating Stress and Emotions
Developing and Using Strategies
Monitoring Outcomes and Adapting Approaches
Managing Attention Skills
